Kurdish president Barzani expresses appreciation to US support in war on ISIS

Kurdistan Region’s President Masoud Barzani on Monday received a United States government delegation headed by Mr. Brett McGurk, the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS.

“President Barzani and Mr. McGurk spoke of the latest developments insofar as the Mosul operation is concerned,” the Kurdistan Region’s Presidency said.

“Mr. McGurk reiterated his content about the level of coordination between the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi forces. He added stating that he hopes for this military cooperation between Baghdad and Erbil would further strengthen the bilateral relations between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region,” the statement added.

“Mr. McGurk also praised the sacrifices of the Peshmerga forces and conveyed his government’s condolences to the families and loved ones of those who paid the ultimate price during this existential war against the terrorists,” the KRP said.

“Reviewed Mosul campaign, praised Peshmerga performance, and offered condolences for losses, in Erbil meeting today with President Barzani,” Brett McGurk said on Twitter.

“President Barzani conveyed his message of appreciation on behalf of the people of the Kurdistan Region to the U.S.-led coalition for their support to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq against the terrorists of the Islamic State,” he stated.
