Iraqi Security Forces on Sunday attacked ISIS security headquarters in the districts of Baaj and Tel Afar, killing two of the group’s most prominent jihadists.

In Baaj, the US-backed Iraqi forces hit an Islamic State’s (ISIS) security office with heavy weapons.

Ghanim Salim al-Jahishi, the ISIS security leader of Baaj, was confirmed dead during the offensive.

In Tel Afar, the Iraqi Security Forces raided a building and killed at least five ISIS members, including the group’s Emir of Tel Afar Kanaan Baris.

“The Iraqi troops launched these strategic simultaneous attacks to hunt these two security leaders of ISIS,” the head of Nineveh media centre Raafat al-Zarari told ARA News.

“The death of al-Jahishi and Baris came as a heavy blow to ISIS,” he said. “I believe that ISIS will face a serious challenge while trying to replace such key leaders.”
