The Israeli Air Force on Saturday carried out an airstrike on positions of the Syrian regime’s army forces at the Syrian side of the Golan Heights, local sources reported.

The Israeli strike came in response to 10 projectiles fired from Syria that hit Israeli-held Golan Heights.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) said that two of its tanks were targeted by an Israeli aircraft in northern Golan.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the SAA told reporters that the projectiles did not cause any casualties.

Israel has protested to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) that the airstrike was carried out “because of the unacceptable violation of Israeli sovereignty”.

The UNDOF monitors a 1974 ceasefire between Syria and Israel.

Israel has conducted multiple air strikes in Syria since that country’s civil war erupted in 2011, most of which it has said targeted arms convoys or warehouses of its Lebanese arch-foe Hezbollah, which is a key supporter of the Syrian regime.
