Urfa, Turkey – The Christian Democratic Partners group in Iraq called on Tuesday on the Christian youth to defend their areas in Nineveh province against al-Qaeda offshoot group of the Islamic State (IS) ــpreviously known as “ISIL”.
The Democratic Partners group issued a statement saying: “After the tragedy of Mosul city’s fall in the hands of the criminal IS gangs (the Islamic State group), and the displacement of Christians to cities, villages and towns of the Nineveh Plains, and other areas of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in the provinces of Erbil and Duhok, we Christians see it’s our duty to defend our people.”
“Christians must participate in defending our towns and villages in the Nineveh Plains,” the group said.
The statement pointed out that the purpose of defence is to show how much they are attached to their land, their willingness to sacrifice with every precious thing for the sake of their ancestors’ land in Nineveh Plains, stressing that it does not reduce the national and willingness to sacrifice for the rest of the components of the Iraqi people.
The statement of Christian Democratic Partners also demanded the Central Government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to enable the youth to achieve this, pointing out that they have the necessary resources for operations, logistics, training and the allocation of the power needed in the alleged defence process.
“We shall help implement this noble goal, defending the unity of Iraq and its people, in order to repel the barbarian attacks by IS and its allies,” the Christians Democratic Partners said during a press conference on Tuesday.
