Deir ez-Zor, Syria – On Tuesday, militants of the Islamic State (IS), an al-Qaeda offshoot, executed a Syrian girl in Deir ez-Zor countryside in Syria’s east, local sources reported.
Ruaa Diab, a young female dentist, was abducted by IS ten days before her execution.
Speaking to ARA News in Deir ez-Zor, civil rights activist Fayez Abdulaziz reported that militants of IS executed Diab, after kidnapping her along with four of her colleagues in al-Mayadeen city in eastern Deir ez-Zor.
The executors told Diab’s father, who went to the IS-held city of Shaddadi in the southern countryside of Hasakah in search for her, that they executed his daughter on charges of having links with the Syrian regime.
The victim was reportedly shot dead in the head “after brutal interrogation by IS”, according to Abdulaziz.
Meanwhile, two other civilians were executed in public by IS militants in the village of al-Hissan in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, activists reported.
“After executing them, IS extremists crucified both young men in the village’s central square, where dozens of residents gathered staring at the victims corpses, silently praying for them,” an eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, told ARA News on Tuesday. “A state of panic overshadowed the village as IS militants decided to leave both corpses crucified for three days.”
On Monday, IS launched a campaign of arrests in al-Shimetiya village near Deir ez-Zor city. Six young men were reportedly captured by IS militants “without mentioning the reason,” locals reported.
The Islamic State recently seized the city of Deir ez-Zor and its surroundings after clashes with Syria rebels, during which dozens were killed on both sides.
