Beirut, Lebanon – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ (UNHCR) office in Lebanon released a statement earlier this week “preventing any Syrian refugee with invalid legal papers to re-enter Lebanon before six months have elapsed”.

On Sunday, many Syrian refugees received a text message on their cell phones emphasizing the intentions of the  Lebanese authorities to restrict movement of refugees across the borders.

The message, sent on August 31, said: “The Lebanese Government announced that illegal Syrian refugees in Lebanon can settle their status or return legally to Syria without being fined.”

“This decision is in force till 31 December, 2014. If you decide to leave Lebanon, you will not be allowed to return before six months have elapsed,” the message said, according to several refugees in Lebanon who talked to ARA News.
