Qamishli, Syria – The Syrian National Coalition for Revolutionary Forces and Opposition (SNC) called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, to bear legal responsibilities for what is happening in Syria concerning the “systematic crimes” committed by forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad with an Iranian support.

The SNC’s Media Office released a statement, of which ARA News received a copy, saying that the Syrian defense minister in the interim government, Major General Salim Idris, said the Zabadani city and other areas in Syria “are exposed to an external invasion led by Iran”.

“These external forces attack the Syrian people in collaboration with the criminal regime of Assad,” he said.

“For more than two weeks, Zabadani has been exposed to fierce attacks by the criminal regime of Bashar al-Assad backed by several terrorist groups from Iran, including sectarian groups of Hezbollah and Zul Faqqar gunmen as well as other affiliated criminal gangs,” Idris said.

He added that the ground attacks on Zabadani are coupled with intensive raids by pro-Assad helicopters that drop barrel bombs on residential buildings in the city.

“Zabadani was exposed to more than 600 barrel bombs and 300 rockets within days,” Idris said.

The Syrian defense minister in the SNC-linked interim government pointed out that the regime’s fierce attacks on Zabadani are aimed at compensating losses of pro-Assad forces in the southern and northern battle fronts.

He called on “all the friends and brothers of the Syrian people” to provide assistance to Zabadani and all stricken Syrian areas.

Idris also appealed to all military and revolutionary forces that operate on Syria’s ground to increase the pace of military operations against Assad’s regime and its allied forces to relieve rebels of Zabadani.

He stressed that rebels in Zabadani and their peers on all fronts “are showing unprecedented bravery against their enemy”, despite limited potentials. He reiterated that Syrian revolution is for freedom and dignity “and it will continue until achieving the aspired victory, liberating Syria from oppression and tyranny”.
