GENEVA – Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Copenhagen and London on Saturday to condemn their governments’ position on the ongoing refugee crisis.

Shouting “Refugees are Welcome”, more than 25,000 people protested outside the building of the Danish parliament in Copenhagen on Saturday.

This comes one day after the Danish government said that it had already taken its “fair share” of asylum seekers, refusing the EU Commission’s proposal to accept another 160,000 refugees.

In the meantime, tens of thousands protested in central London, calling on their government to make greater efforts to help Syrian refugees.

The peaceful protesters waved placards reading “Open the Border”, while heading to the the office of Prime Minister David Cameron.

Last week, Cameron agreed to accept 20,000 refugees over the coming five years, in response to the escalating refugee crisis in Europe.

London protesters urged their government to do more.

Also on Saturday, hundreds of people participated in pro-refugee rallies in The Hague, The Netherlands, Dublin in Ireland and Budapest in Hungary.
