ISIS executes dozens of Iraqi tribesmen

ARA News

ERBIL – The Islamic State (ISIS) extremist group has executed dozens of Sunni tribal men in western Iraq earlier this week, local sources reported on Wednesday.

More than 70 members of the Albu Nimr tribe were executed on Sunday in the Tharthar area north of Ramadi in Anbar province.

ISIS executed the men for an alleged cooperation with Iraqi government forces against the group.

“These people who were executed were the fathers and brothers of members of the police, the army… and of tribal fighters who are battling Daesh (ISIS),” a tribal leader told the AFP on Wednesday. “Daesh executed them by shooting.”

Iraqi forces, supported by U.S.-led coalition airstrikes, launched a vast operation west of Ramadi Sunday to tighten the noose on ISIS, which captured the Anbar capital in May.

A local source reported that ISIS extremists had earlier killed dozens of tribe members in the Khanzir area in Ramadi.
