QAMISHLI – Some 35 Kurdish civil society organizations held a forum in Qamishli city of Hasakah province last week, and established a so-called Syrian Civil Platform. The project focuses on the role of civil society groups in the aspired transitional phase in Syria.

“The platform tries to become a channel to convey the voice of the Syrian people in vital negotiations, aiming to maintain citizens’ rights and accomplish their demands in any negotiations about Syria’s future,” said Shiyar Issa, head of the Civil Society Center for Democracy and co-founder of the newly founded platform.

The Syrian Civil Platform in Hasakah also aims to provide recommendations to the concerned parties in order to reach an effective solution for the Syrian crisis.

“This platform reassures an active role for the civil society organizations by putting pressure on decision-makers to preserve civil peace and reach a real solution for the Syrian crisis,” Issa told ARA News.

Hiro Fares, member of the civil platform, said: “Our goal is to deliver the voice of our civil society to the international fora.”
