IDLIB Dozens of civilians were reported dead in airstrikes by the Syrian airforce in the rebel-held Idlib province, northwestern Syria, local sources reported on Saturday.

“The strikes hit a crowded marketplace and residential neighbourhoods in Idlib, causing a mass destruction beside killing and wounding dozens,” local media activist Imad Halwani told ARA News.

At least 27 people were killed, most of them were children and women, and over 40 others injured in the airstrikes.

In the meantime, rescue teams continued to search for survivors under the rubble.

“Some of the injured are in critical condition, and we suffer from shortage of medical supplies. The death toll may increase in the next few hours,” a medical source told ARA News in the Idlib field hospital on Saturday.

This comes just one day after the US and Russia announced a truce plan to end the over five-year-old conflict in Syria.
