The Islamic State’s (ISIS) supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is still alive and has moved to Syria, the Iraqi intelligence reported on Monday.

The Iraqi military intelligence, known as Suqur al-Istikhbarat unit, said that the recent reports about al-Baghdadi’s death were inaccurate, stressing that he is still alive.

The ISIS caliph al-Baghdadi has recently moved to Syria after being injured in an airstrike by the US-led coalition in northwestern Iraq.

“The leader of terrorists al-Baghdadi has left Mosul. He is now based in Syria, moving across the ISIS-held areas near the Iraqi border,” the Iraqi intelligence said in a statement on Monday.

It also warned that some “Iraqi politicians” may be in contact with the ISIS leadership “to give the terror group a strategic opportunity to remain in control of some areas in northern Iraq.”
