Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) executed this week more than 350 Iraqi citizens, most of them from the Arab tribe of Jabour in Qayyarah sub-district south of Mosul in northwestern Iraq.
A local source in Mosul told ARA News (on the condition of anonymity) that among the victims were members of Iraqi governmental institutions, including the security department in the Qayyarah area.
“These victims were detained by the group when IS gained control of Mosul in June, 2014,” the source added.
“Most of the victims were from the Jabour Arab clan which used to live in Qayyarah and surrounding villages.”
The source added that among the 350 people killed there were 85 Iraqi security members, and 45 high-ranking army officers.
In the meantime, local sources in Mosul reported Thursday that the IS militants executed five civilians in the Bab al-Toob area downtown, including Dr. Hadi Obeid Khazaal “who was working in the forensic medical division at the Health Department of Nineveh”.
“The five men were killed on charges of leaking information about the IS death tolls in the latest battles,” a media activist told ARA News in Mosul on the condition of anonymity for security concerns.
The hardline group has arrested thousands of people in Mosul of Nineveh province since June 2014, including officers in the police and Iraqi army, candidates for the parliamentary elections and tribal leaders, as the number of those missing in the province has reached 4,000 people, according to activists.
Mosul residents said that the militant group is throwing the victims’ bodies in valley of Khasfa (located in the village of al-Azba south of Mosul), denying their families the bodies for proper burials in private cemeteries.
