The United States has increased its military support to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), in a step to accelerate the anti-ISIS Raqqa campaign, military sources reported on Saturday.
A spokesman for the SDF confirmed to ARA News that a new convoy of US military support has arrived to SDF-held areas in Rojava-Northern Syria.
“100 vehicles carrying military equipment from the US-led coalition have entered Hasakah province in the past few days,” the source said.
The official stressed that the equipment is to be used in the battle for Raqqa, where the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces continue their military operations against ISIS extremists.
Local sources told ARA News that a total of 180 US military vehicles have entered northern Syria in a week.
Raqqa has been known as a de facto capital for the ISIS self-proclaimed Caliphate since the summer of 2014.
On June 6, 2017, the Syrian Democratic Forces announced the official start of the battle for Raqqa city, an operation supported by the US-led coalition.
The Syrian Democratic Forces, a polyethnic alliance of Kurds, Arabs and Assyrians, began isolating Raqqa in November 2016. This US-backed campaign is known as Operation Euphrates Wrath.
